Early Modern Drama, Performance, Adaptation

Biography

Emily Yates is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of English at Michigan State University. She received a bachelor’s degree in English and Theatre at the University of Notre Dame (2013) and a master’s degree in English from Michigan State (2016). Her research centers around early modern drama, performance, and adaptation. Her dissertation uses estrangement as a conceptual lens to re-examine Shakespeare’s romances in terms of their generic and thematic complexities, as well as their potential impact on audience responses, both in the early modern period and in subsequent “after-lives.” She currently works as the assistant editor for Theatre Annual, co-coordinates the “Performance and Play: Premodern to the Present” Research Workshop, and serves as the advising assistant for the Departments of English and Film at MSU.
