Biography

Lau Romero (They/Them/Ella) is a Ph.D. Candidate (A.B.D.) in Hispanic Cultural Studies and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Michigan State University. Their doctoral dissertation revolves around notions of cultural and literary field, queer theory, feminism, and performance in the private letters of Chilean Nobel prize poet Gabriela Mistral. 

Their previous academic experience includes a bachelor/licenciatura in Hispanic Literature from the Universidad de Chile, as well as a master’s degree in Latin American Cultural Studies from the same institution. Their master’s project focused on Latin American women’s writing during the first half of the XX century and included cultural production from Chilean and Costa Rican women. Other areas of research interest include South American narratives of the post-dictatorial times and Latinx film.

Research Interests: Cultural and literary field, queer theory, feminism, and performance in the private letters of Chilean Nobel prize poet Gabriela Mistral.
