Biography

Mayra Flores Mejia is a Ph.D. student in Hispanic Cultural Studies and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Michigan State University. In 2020, she received the Best Spanish Teaching Assistant Award from our department. She has recently published her review of Mónica Díaz’s and R. Quispe-Agnoli’s Women’s Voices and Textual Negotiations in Latin America (1500-1799) in Historia y Cultura 32 (2021), the journal of the Museo Nacional de Arqueología, Antropología e Historia del Perú. Mayra’s plans for her doctoral projects intend to focus on the agency and voice of Indigenous women of early colonial Peru and their (self)representations in a variety of historical and literary texts.

Research Interests: Colonial Latin American literature, Andean studies, Indigenous and mestizo writers, Andean women’s studies
