Biography

Alissa Cohen earned her B.A. from the University of Michigan in English literature and French language and an M.A. at the University of Illinois in Chicago in applied linguistics. In addition, she completed study abroad programs at l’Universite Paul Valery in Montpellier, France and at Oxford University.  Alissa has served on the faculty of the English Language Center since 1999.  Prior to that, she taught at the University of Iowa, University of Illinois, and in various ESL programs in Ann Arbor.  She also spent three years in Japan teaching English.  Alissa’s professional interests include teacher training, writing instruction, and strategies for promoting active learning.  One of Alissa’s ongoing passions includes organizing service and outreach projects that create connections between international and domestic students at MSU and in the greater community.
