Biography

Bree Straayer, Assistant Professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Cultures, has joined the first year writing faculty. Bree has an educational background focused on English and Writing Pedagogy with her PhD in Rhetoric and Writing with a Cultural Rhetorics Emphasis and Specialization in Women and Gender from MSU in 2020, an MA in Critical Literacy and Pedagogy, and a BA in English Language and Literature. During her time as a student at MSU, she was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Citation for her work in mentoring new writing TAs. Her vocational and research interests focus on the intersections of culture, gender, and education. She has several publications and has presented nationally on her research with language learners and also on her research examining the role of religious ideologies in educational trajectories. She has worked with language learners throughout her career in multiple contexts, including non-profit, community college, and university. When not reading or writing, Bree enjoys spending time traveling, gardening, antiquing, and making all manner of things.
